Operations Manager

Fleet management, Health & Safety, Facilities.....it's all yours!

This role is Head Office based but it spans our entire branch network. We are a thriving builders’ merchant with 13 branches, so there is a great deal that needs to be done in operations to keep us compliant and efficient.

This is how you will be spending your time….
• Taking ownership of the operational agenda; agree the priorities, make recommendations for improvement, and ensure the objectives are achieved.
• Managing the Operations team.
• Being the main contact for our branches for anything operations related.

In addition, these areas will be your responsibility…

Health & Safety & Security
• Ensuring we are compliant with all relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
Fleet Management
• Keeping our fleet on the road and ensuring we remain compliant with transport licensing rules.
• Carrying out regular checks of our operating centres.
• Overseeing the maintenance of 60+ commercial vehicles, 60 company cars, grey fleet, and various transport related plant assets such as mechanical lifting aids.
• Carrying out fleet reviews and procurement recommendations for lorries, vans, cars, forklifts etc. 
• Lead on maintaining our estate to optimum efficiency, including buildings, equipment, and outdoor working environment.
• Carry out a thorough review of the existing supplier base. 
• Take an active role in the projects within our branches such as refurbishment works and storage modifications.

This is what you will need to be successful …
• Evidence of leading people effectively, both direct reports and influencing peers.
• Knowledge and experience in an operational role in a similar environment.
• In depth knowledge of transport/driver legislation, Health & Safety legislation, and Risk Awareness.
• Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage and Passenger Transport or equivalent knowledge (CPC preferred – but we can organise training). 
• Great communication skills to build strong relationships at all levels.
• Good understanding of financial and statistical information.
• Logically minded with exceptional organisational skills, and a keen attention to detail.
• Advanced working knowledge of IT, including Excel, and confident interrogating systems.
• Valid UK driving license.
